Tabernacle EMS assisted in the response and treatment of those injured.
The following information was provided by the Medford Township Police Department:
On July 16 at 4:08 p.m., Medford Township Police Fire and EMS units were dispatched to Tuckerton Road just west of Lenape Trail in Medford Lakes for a motor vehicle accident. The accident involved five school buses transporting campers from the JCC Camp on Tuckerton Road in Medford. Each of the buses contained students being transported home after the day camp concluded.
Initial assessment by first responders identified 21 children, one camp staff member and two bus drivers with injuries that were all determined to be minor in nature. Each of the injured was transported to Virtua Voorhees and Virtua Mount Holly Hospitals for treatment of their injuries. 67 campers and 10 staff members were taken off the buses and were then transported back to the JCC Camp on additional buses to be reunified with their families.
The following agencies assisted in the response and treatment of the injured persons Medford Lakes Police, Virtua Paramedics, Moorestown EMS, Evesham EMS, Mount Laurel EMS, Tabernacle EMS, Indian Mills EMS and Lumberton EMS.
The Medford Township Traffic Safety Unit was dispatched and is investigating the incident. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. The buses involved in the crash were owned and operated by the Safety Bus Company located in Pennsauken.
