Lenape Regional participating in True Hero Project

This past spring, just weeks before graduating, nearly 1,800 Lenape Regional High School District seniors fanned out to more than 90 sites throughout the district’s sending communities to participate in a district-wide volunteer service initiative, made possible by a grant from the NJ Learn and Serve America Program.

You have a chance to help the Class of 2012 secure the funds it needs to participate in next year’s Senior Day of Service by voting for the LRHSD grant opportunity in the True Hero competition.

True Hero, Inc. grants cash awards to high school, college and qualified non-profit community youth organizations that sponsor service trips and volunteer activities for students. This year, LRHSD is in the running to receive the True Hero grant, which will enable the district to continue the Senior Day of Service. Each project is posted on TrueHero.org for public viewing and voting, and the project with the most votes before midnight on July 1 will receive the grant funding to make their project possible.

“Senior students in each of the district’s high schools have the opportunity to work together with their classmates to give back to the communities that have supported them throughout their years of schooling,” Chris Heilig, assessment, accountability and planning coordinator, LRHSD said. “It’s a chance for seniors to show their appreciation to their communities one last time before graduating and moving on to adulthood.”

To help the LRHSD seniors in your community help you, vote for the Lenape Regional High School District Senior Day of Service Project by visiting www.LRHSD.org and vote under the heading “LRHSD Grant Opportunity.”
