Seneca’s Nick Decker selected by Boston Red Sox in second round of MLB Draft

Decker was taken with the 64th overall pick of the draft on Monday night.

Seneca High School outfielder Nick Decker was not available for long in the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft.

After being ranked as a top-100 player in his draft class all spring, Decker was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the second round of the 2018 MLB Draft shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Monday night. Decker was the 64th overall pick of the draft.

Decker has had an impressive high school season, batting for a .492 average with seven home runs and 24 runs batted in. Last Friday, Decker helped Seneca win the South Jersey Group III championship, the team’s first sectional since 2011. Seneca will play Allentown High School Tuesday afternoon in the NJSIAA Group III state semifinals.

The last player taken in the MLB Draft out of Seneca was pitcher Kevin Comer in 2011. Comer was selected with the 57th overall pick that year by the Toronto Blue Jays. He is currently playing for the AAA Toledo Mud Hens in the Detroit Tigers organization.
