Construction work for the rehabilitation of County Bridge D4.47 located on Church Road (CrR 616) over Little Creek at the border between Medford and Southampton Townships was scheduled to begin Friday, Aug. 16. The road will be closed as of Friday and remain closed until the projected is completed.
The project is estimated to take about four months, with completion scheduled for December of this year, Freeholder Director Joseph B. Donnelly announced today.
Traffic will be detoured from Church Road to Fostertown Road to CR 541 (Medford — Mt. Holly Road) to Bridge Road (CR 612) to Eayerstown Road.
The existing bridge was built in 1976 and is a two span timber stringer bridge on timber piles. The bridge is in poor condition, is functionally obsolete and structurally deficient. The bridge will be replaced with a glu-laminated timber bridge supported on concrete abutments & center pier founded on steel pipe piles. The approach roadway and bridge will be widened and bicycle compatible shoulders will be provided. An asphalt-riding surface will be provided on the bridge.
The majority of the $1,761,455 project will be funded by the NJDOT — Local Bridge Future Needs Fund, with the remaining portion funded by the County.
The project will be constructed by Walters Marine Construction, Inc. of Ocean View, NJ.
