Freeholder Director Bruce Garganio personally organized a team of his fellow Carpenters Local #255 members to construct a new “no cage” cat room at the Burlington County Animal Shelter.
“First I want to thank all of the guys from our Local #255 that came out and volunteered their time to help us build something worthwhile for the animal shelter,” Freeholder Director Garganio said. “This new room will provide free space for cats and kittens to play and socialize, and will ultimately increase the number of adoptions.”
With over a dozen members of Carpenters Local #255 on site, including Director Garganio who served as a foreman carpenter for 28 years and is currently a Council Representative for the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters, the new room was constructed in just three hours with only minimal aesthetic work remaining before the shelter’s cats and kittens can begin to enjoy their new space.
“This new free space for cats is really an innovative and forward thinking approach to running an animal shelter. I have to applaud all of the Friends of the Burlington County Animal Shelter who do so much for the animals and who came up with this great idea,” Garganio continued.
In addition to leading the construction of the new “no cage” cat room, Freeholder Director has been active in assisting the Burlington County Animal Shelter throughout his tenure. Through his “Director’s Dog of the Month” initiative, which highlights individual dogs on social media, Garganio has already helped several dogs find permanent homes.
The Burlington County Animal Shelter is located at 35 Academy Drive, Westampton NJ 08060 and can be reached by phone at 609–265–5073.
