The Rowan College at Burlington County men’s and women’s soccer players earned post-regular season awards, including Region XIX Division I Player of the Year, Joan Logan, as the men’s team advances in the playoffs.
“The Rowan College at Burlington County student athletes have worked incredibly hard to come as far as they did this year and earn these postseason awards,” said RCBC President Paul Drayton. “We are feeling confident as the men prepare to compete for the championship title this weekend.”
After beating Harcum College 6–1 on Saturday, the Rowan College at Burlington County men’s soccer team advances to the Region XIX finals.
The team, which entered the playoffs ranked 11th in Junior College Division I by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, and 15th by the National Junior College Athletic Association, their highest ranking since 2013, saw six players pick up post-regular season awards.
Midfielder Jack Hoey, of London, England, was ranked the third best player in Region XIX. He was named to the First Team All-Region XIX for Division I soccer, along with forward Orlando Neto, of Fairview, and defender Charlie MacAskill, of England. MacAskill was one of only a handful of freshmen last year to earn the NJCAA Division I Soccer All-American honor. Both Hoey and MacAskill were also named to the All-Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) Team.
Placing in All-Region XIX Second Team were midfielders Mattheus Oliviera, of San Bernardo de Campo, Brazil, Ismael Guerrero, of Madrid, Spain, and defender Shawn Peterson, of York, Pennsylvania.
“Evidenced by their postseason awards, we have some really strong players this season, and they are looking forward to increasing their winning streak this weekend,” said head coach Craig Dewar.
The men will play in the Region XIX finals against Mercer on Saturday, Oct. 31 at Mercer County Community College at 1:30 p.m.
The Lady Barons entered the playoffs as conference champions, but saw an upset in the first round against Mercer County Community College on Saturday.
“The ladies really came on strong at the end of the season to win their conference and we are proud of how far they came this year,” said head coach Kathe DeLitta. “Five of our players picked up postseason awards, including player of the year, which is a great accomplishment.”
In her second year as a Lady Baron, Joan Logan, a forward from Jobstown, secured the Player of the Year Award for the Region and Division. Last year, Logan earned the NJCAA’s Honorable Mentions for Division I Women’s Soccer All-Americans.
Logan and her teammate, goalkeeper Amber Steen, of New Egypt, were named to the First Team All-Region XIX Division I and First Team All-GSAC Division I. Named to the Region’s Second Team were midfielders Allison Paonessa, of West Berlin, and Kayla Bancroft, of New Egypt, along with defender Eve Hunter, of Edinburgh, Scotland.
The Lady Barons also had three players make Second Team All-GSAC, Paonessa, Hunter and defender Julia Metivier, of Mount Holly.
