School is out and summer weather has finally arrived! Along with all those outside activities, don’t forget that it is still fun to read a good book at the beach or in the shade of a leafy, green tree.

Our Summer Reading Program 2017 has begun and many of our younger readers have already signed up. For children 5 and under, prizes are awarded based on the number of books read. Older children earn rewards based on the hours they have spent reading. There is still time or join the program and win. Ready, set…read!

International and award-winning magician Joe Holiday will be bringing his Reading Rocks Magic Show to the Pinelands Library on June 20 at 10:30 am. Joe has performed around the world and at major amusement parks providing family friendly entertainment to kids of all ages. Now he brings us his unique style of magic, comedy and music with audience participation to us showcasing classical children’s literature.

Attention all boaters and water craft operators! The state of New Jersey requires that you have a NJ State Police issued boating safety certificate on board while you are in NJ waters. Mark Rubino, a United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Division Commander, will be leading a three-week course to earn your certification on July 11, 18 and 25 at 5:00pm. The course involves lectures, workbooks, handouts and testing. You must attend all 3 classes to be eligible for certification. There is a $65 fee for the course, but if you mention the Burlington County Library System, you will receive a 205 discount. Register by contacting Mark at 609–364–0929 or via email at [email protected].

Many of our regular programs continue through the summer including Toddler Time, Baby Time and Story Time for our younger guests, Lego Club, Pokemon and Gaming for those a bit older, and for the adults, BCLS Brewers’ Book Club at Lower Forge Brewery on July 16 at 2:00 and a DIT Indoor Herb Garden class on July 19 at noon.

Until next time, keep turning those pages and watch out for children on vacation out and about!
