Seneca students to compete in Jazz Festival this Friday

Performances will feature members of All South Jersey and All State Honors bands

Shawnee High School will host their annual Jazz Festival this Friday, Feb. 2 at 5 p.m. Twelve jazz bands are scheduled to compete, including LRHSD sister schools Seneca, Lenape, and Cherokee. The programs will include many popular jazz standards, and feature a number of accomplished young musicians, including members of the All South Jersey and All State Honors bands.

In addition, there will be a guest performance by M-Town Jazz, a local favorite.

“This is not only a showcase of the tremendous musical talent within our South Jersey schools, but also a really entertaining evening for the community. We urge everyone to come out and enjoy a great night of music,” said Jeanne Hauser, event coordinator and member of the Shawnee Band Parents Association, which organizes the Jazz Festival.

The event will run from 5 until 10 p.m. Tickets, available at the door, are $8 for general admission and $5 for students and seniors. Seniors with a Lenape Regional School District golden pass are admitted free. The Shawnee band parents will be selling hot food and homemade baked goods in the cafeteria all evening. All proceeds will go to support the Shawnee band programs. The competition will be held in the Shawnee High School auditorium, located at 600 Tabernacle Rd., in Medford.
