Message from the mayor

Shamong Residents:

Sorry to bother you once again with Halloween information, but there seems to be some confusion and I wanted to clear the air for everyone. Yes, the governor has scheduled Halloween for Monday. I have been in touch with the governor’s office and they have no problem with us holding our festivities this Friday instead.

The governor’s intent was to prevent Halloween activities in towns where there continues to be power outages, down trees and power lines or flooding. Fortunately, we are not in that situation. In fact, we probably could’ve safely held our festivities Oct. 31, but elected to give it two more days for things to settle down.

Our kids are in school, power has been restored and our roads are clear. By holding our Halloween festivities on Friday, Nov. 2, we will also be coordinating that with the annual school parade.

We are not ignoring the governor’s order. We have kept his office informed regarding our decision and there are no issues here.

Thanks to all for the great job everyone did in getting through the storm. Have a great Halloween!

Mayor Jon Shevelew
