Indian Mills Memorial School celebrates Alter Ego Day

On May 28, the eighth grade students of Mrs. Cathy Campeau’s Language Arts classes took part in the annual “Alter Ego” Day. This event is the culminating activity for the class, based on their reading and analysis of the novel, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, by Robert Louis Stevenson. As Campeau explained, “It gives the students the opportunity to step out of their skin and take on a completely opposite personality; one that they would never readily adopt.”

Additionally, through the years, Campeau recounted how amazing the project has been; with students approaching it with creative and sometimes complicated demonstrations of who they are not.

As part of the project, students are required to dress the part; prepare an introduction of themselves; and, act out as that personality for the entire day. Seeing how students perceive themselves is a fascinating sight.

Moreover, Campeau reflected that their ingenuity and thoughtful approach has made the project one of those things that stays with them forever.
