Palmyra’s Downtown and Public Safety Day sparking conversations about citizens’ safety

Despite the overcast skies and threat of rain on Saturday, May 6, Palmyra’s Downtown and Public Safety Day took place as scheduled, shutting down several blocks of Broad Street for vendors, bounce houses and interactive demonstrations from Palmyra’s public safety officials. Palmyra’s Independence Fire Company Chief Richard Dreby said some of the biggest draws were the fire truck rides around town and the opportunity for kids to man a fire hose.

Palmyra recognizing students past and present

Palmyra’s Board of Education adopted the 2017–2018 budget unanimously and without any questions at the Wednesday, May 10 meeting in Charles Street School. The total 2017–2018 budget is $18.01 million, with $10.22 million to be raised through taxation.Wednesday’s meeting was held in conjunction with the district’s Spring Sports Recognition ceremony. Before adopting the budget, the board was treated to performances from Charles Street School students, and in return, students from all of Palmyra’s schools were recognized in front of the board, their parents and Palmyra’s educators.

Palmyra’s potholes to get pummeled

The borough of Palmyra has hired an expert to saw, cut and remove all of the deteriorated asphalt and repair it with hot asphalt for a long-term, quality repair. The total cost is to expected to approach $50,000, according to the borough’s website.The borough is asking the public to remind them of any potholes they may miss over the next two weeks by calling or emailing.
