Burlington County Freeholders Board announces Valentine’s Day wedding event

Annual tradition of free weddings will continue on Feb. 14

Burlington County Clerk Joanne Schwartz announced plans for a Valentine’s Day wedding event at the Burlington County Lyceum of History and Natural Sciences. This annual tradition of free weddings will continue with the newly elected County Clerk who will hold individual wedding ceremonies on Feb. 14 from 3 to 7 p.m.

“Marrying people is an honor and privilege and I’m proud to provide this free service on this special holiday,” said County Clerk Schwartz. “The Lyceum is a beautiful location with a long history and the perfect place to hold an intimate, civil ceremony.”

Built in the 1830’s, the Mansion was home to the Langstaff Family. The stately home is an eight-room mansion on upper High Street boasting eight fireplaces made of King of Prussia marble, original hand-painted glass, hardwood floors, and light fixtures. Once the residence for the Langstaff family until 1834, the home was sold to Dr. Reamer and remained a residence until 1957 when it was sold to the Mount Holly Library.

The home was recently purchased by the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders and has undergone extensive restoration returning the home to its former glory.

Couples interested in getting married should contact the office at (609) 265–5142 to schedule an appointment. County Clerk’s wedding events fill up quickly so please call to be sure an appointment is available. The couple will need to obtain a marriage license from the town in which either of the parties resides. It takes 72 hours to obtain the license, so it cannot be left until the last minute.

County Clerk Joanne Schwartz regularly performs wedding ceremonies for Burlington County residents. Clerk Schwartz is also planning future wedding events at county venues, such as the Historic Prison and Smithville Mansion for spring, Halloween and winter holidays.
