The Freeholder Board voted unanimously to endorse plans for upgrades to the Route 130 and Bridgeboro Road/Creek Road intersection
Building off the response to Burlington County’s recently announced initiative to spearhead immediate infrastructure improvements along the Northern Route 130 corridor, Burlington County Freeholder Director Kate Gibbs said today that the County has partnered with Delanco, Edgewater Park and Willingboro to address another notoriously troubled intersection on the state roadway.
“A few months ago was the start of a new day when it comes to working alongside our municipalities and addressing regional traffic issues in a way that will improve the quality of life of our residents,” said Freeholder Director Gibbs. “As we work quickly to implement our solutions for much needed traffic relief along the northern Route 130 corridor, I am pleased to expand the county’s initiative and begin to deliver improvements to other areas of the roadway.”
The improvements would include providing additional capacity at the Route 130 intersection for current and future traffic by building a new, separate deceleration lane on northbound Route 130 for motorists turning onto Bridgeboro Road, and expanding the existing jughandle by adding a second lane. Presently, a line of cars and trucks build on the shoulder of Route 130 during peak times. The improvements would also extend the second lane from the jughandle to Creek Road and enhance the geometry of that intersection.
With its vote on Wednesday, the Freeholder Board is requesting that DVRPC change its long-range plan to include the concept and add the intersection improvements to its Transportation Improvement Program, which is a necessary step towards securing State Department of Transportation funding for construction.
“I share in the frustration of our residents who have likely been adversely impacted by the mounting volume of traffic along the Route 130 corridor, and am committed to pursuing every solution,” added Freeholder Director Gibbs. “Our residents need traffic relief now and I am confident our initiative will do just that.”
Gibbs previously announced that the County is providing $12.5 million to jumpstart improvements to the Route 130 and Florence-Columbus Road and Route 130 and Cedar Lane intersections in Florence, and Dulty’s Lane in Burlington Township.
Additionally, the County has entered into a shared services agreement with Burlington City, Burlington Township, Florence and Mansfield to develop further traffic relief solutions for the Route 130 corridor, and jointly plan for current and future residential and non-residential growth.
