It’s a day of basketball and fun at Harrington Middle School from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. to raise money for breast cancer awareness.
Locals can get ready to “think pink” on Feb. 3.
Whether it’s pink balloons, pink uniforms or pink posters, Mt. Laurel Girls Travel Basketball is gearing up for the organization’s annual “Think Pink Day” for breast cancer awareness.
The annual event invites members of the Mt. Laurel community to stop by Harrington Middle School for a day filled with friends, family and lots of fun basketball to enjoy watching while raising money to support breast cancer awareness efforts.
Once again this year, all proceeds from the event will go toward the South Jersey Chapter Of The Susan G. Komen Foundation For Breast Cancer Research.
Locals will pay no admission charge to attend, but visitors are asked to make donations to help support breast cancers awareness.
Those who attend can also donate through direct donations, purchasing concessions, buying special T-shirts or participating in basket auctions featuring donations from local businesses.
Organizing this year’s event is Lenape High School sophomore Regan King.
King took over organizing duties last year from former Mt. Laurel basketball player Madison Smith, who organized the event for several years prior.
King said Smith and her family are close friends, and when Smith moved on to to college, King said she decided to keep the event alive.
“It was just a really fun day filled with basketball, and all the girls loved it,” King said. “It lets lots of friends and family come together to raise money for a great cause, and I wanted to keep that going.”
Through past events, the Think Pink Day has raised a combined total of nearly $10,000 for breast cancer awareness and related causes, with last year’s event collecting $2,400.
“I just think it’s a really good cause and it’s such a fun day,” King said. “Even if you don’t play basketball or know the game, there’s just a lot of friends and family coming together for a great cause and a lot of fun.”
This year’s Mt. Laurel Girls Travel Basketball Think Pink Day will be held on Feb. 3 from 8:30 a.m. through 8 p.m. at Harrington Middle School at 514 Mt. Laurel Road.
“Basketball is a big part of my life,” King said. “I’ve been playing at least since kindergarten, and Think Pink Day was always something I looked forward to when I played in the travel season. This was the game I most wanted to play in. It’s just a great cause.”
