Andre Lopez was nominated by a student who said Lopez educates and changes lives.
Lenape High School English teacher Andre Lopez was recently a winner in the 96.5FM “Very Important Teachers Program 2018.” Lenape junior Albie Sittineri nominated Lopez, and district officials said Sittineri described Lopez by saying, “He’s not just there to educate, but he’s there to change our lives.”
When asked about his reaction to the award, Lopez said he loves his job and students, and while he does not teach for awards or recognition, he instead teaches to make a difference for his students in their education and in their lives.
Lopez said receiving the award was “truly special” as he was nominated by a student who genuinely appreciates what he does and how he does it.
“I was surprised, shocked and speechless when Albie read her brief essay nominating me for this honor,” Lopez said. “Albie is a wonderful young lady and an absolute joy to have in the classroom. She made my year.”
Lopez has been teaching for 22 years.
“It is moments like this that remind me that what I do matters and that my love for this profession and my students really does hit home sometimes,” Lopez said.
