Preservation planning grants awarded to four Burlington County towns

Senator Diane Allen welcomed the award of preservation planning grants for four historic structures in Burlington County by the Christie Administration.

Funding, provided by the Garden State Historic Preservation Trust Fund, will go to the development of site preservation and use plans for: Christ Church Cemetery (Bordentown, $7,500), St. Mary’s Episcopal Church (Burlington, $50,000), Perkins Center for the Arts (Moorestown, $34,500), and Jacob’s Chapel AME Church (Mount Laurel, $50,000).

“Preservation plans are an important but arduous and expensive undertaking,” Allen said. “These funds will go a long way to assist the governing bodies at each facility develop a strategy to preserve and use these historic resources.”

Preservation plans are developed consulting a variety of experts including the site’s managers and trustees, architects, regulators, and others, to lay out the immediate and long term structural needs of a historic facility and how it will be used by the public.
