Lenape High School student reaches important milestone

Meghana Jampana, a Mt. Laurel resident and freshman at Lenape High School, will be performing her Bharathanatyam Arangetram. The dance graduation program is on June 22, at the Lenape High School auditorium. As part of this event, she will perform ten dances in the classical Indian dance form called Bharathanatyam. She has been learning since the age of five and owes her sustained interest and achievements in this field, to her guru Mrs. Sukanya Mahadevan from Shishya School of Performing Arts in Lawrenceville and her parents.

Jampana took lessons in ballet, tap and hip hop at Dance Craze in Marlton. She performed in various recitals for both schools along with talent shows at the Mt. Laurel middle schools. Her ability to learn quickly and her determination to do well led to her excelling in multiple dance forms simultaneously. Along with her being an honors student, she was a girl scout for many years and recently received a Silver Award for the project “Bollywood — A Healthy Life-Style”, the idea of fitness through dance, for which she choreographed dances with both classical and modern movements for children ages five through 10 at the Mt. Laurel Library. Her long-term goal is to teach and spread dance as an art form as well as exercise.

Through Shishya School’s annual productions and her family involvement in raising funds for ADA, Jampana raised funds for several charitable causes and has actively focused on contributions to society. She has dedicated the graduation event to the ADA to raise awareness and funds for the growing epidemic of diabetes. She is requesting friends, family, and the members of the community to donate generously to the ADA on the website: http://main.diabetes.org/goto/mj.
