Employee of Mt. Laurel-based company nearly scammed into transferring money

The following information was provided by the Mt. Laurel Police Department.

An employee of a company on Gaither Drive reported that they received an email that appeared to be from their company CEO directing them to transfer more than $27,000 to a specified bank account. Money transfers such as this are commonplace for the company so the transfer was completed. On July 9, the company received another email directing them to transfer more than $41,000. The CEO was on location when the email was received and he identified it as a scam. A hold was placed on the first transfer and the second transfer was never made.

On July 10 at 3 p.m., an officer was on foot patrol at a hotel on Route 73 when he was approached by a hotel guest. The guest reported that there was an unconscious 17-year-old female in one of the rooms. The officer located the female and determined that she had overdosed on drugs. Officers administered a dose of Narcan and revived the victim. She was transported to a local hospital by Mt. Laurel EMS for treatment.

A resident of the first block of Sandhurst Drive reported that between July 9 and 10 someone forcibly removed the vehicle emblem from the grill of his Saab causing damage to the car.

On July 11 at 2:15 a.m., Mt. Laurel Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Fellowship Road near Route 73. During the stop officers arrested a 28-year-old woman from Mt. Laurel. She was charged with driving while intoxicated and released pending a court hearing.

On July 12 at 11:40 a.m., Mount Laurel Police responded to a hotel on Route 73 for the report of a theft. During the investigation officers arrested a 28-year-old woman from Philadelphia. She was wanted out of Montgomery County, Pa. for parole violations. She was charged with being a fugitive from justice. Her bail was set at $45,000 and she was committed to the Burlington County Jail.

A representative from Ramblewood Farms reported that between July 7 and July 9, someone damaged the “Ramblewood Farms” sign located at the corner of Academy Drive and Hainesport Road. The sign is valued at $100.

A member of LA Fitness on Dearborne Circle reported that the keys to his vehicle were stolen from an unsecured locker in the men’s locker room on July 12 between 5 and 6:15 p.m.

On July 13 at 2 p.m. Mt. Laurel Police responded to the Home Depot on Nixon Drive for a shoplifting complaint. During the investigation officers arrested a 33-year-old woman from Browns Mills after she shoplifted a $160 power tool and then attempted to return it for a cash refund. She was charged with shoplifting and released pending a court hearing.

On July 14 at 11:40 a.m., Mt. Laurel Police arrested a 47-year-old man from Mt. Laurel he became disorderly following a municipal court appearance. During the incident he kicked an officer in the leg, which led to his arrest. He was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and released on his own recognizance. He was transported to a local hospital for an evaluation after suffering an unknown medical issue.

On July 15 at 7:30 p.m., Mt. Laurel Police responded to a business on the 3000 block of Route 38 to serve an arrest warrant on an 18-year-old man from Mt. Laurel. Subsequent to his arrest he was found in possession of marijuana. He was charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and released after posting bail on his warrant.

On July 16 at 12:35 p.m., Mt. Laurel Police responded to the ShopRite on Nixon Drive for a shoplifting complaint. During the investigation officers arrested a 32-year-old woman from Collingswood for shoplifting $30 worth of merchandise. She was released pending a court hearing.
