Mt. Laurel’s Harrington Middle School needs votes for school lab makeover contest

The Thomas E. Harrington Middle School in Mt. Laurel has been selected as one of 20 finalists in the Northrop Grumman Foundation’s Fab School Labs makeover contest. Nearly 200 schools participated in the contest to share their school’s vision for a state-of-the-art science lab. Harrington seventh-grade science teacher Maureen Barrett submitted a video as part of her entry, highlighting the classroom features that would enhance the STEM experience for her underwater robotics students.

That video will be one of the first videos to be put to a public vote on the FabSchoolLabs Facebook page on Nov. 16. The top five middle schools in the five-day online voting contest will win a $100,000 grant and the chance to work with science lab renovation experts from Flinn Scientific to convert their STEM lab into a state of the art facility.

Currently, all Mt. Laurel Schools are conducting outreach campaigns to parents to request that they take a few moments next Monday to vote for Harrington’s video. According to Barrett’s video, the FabSchool Lab makeover would result in greater storage and workspace, as well as a proper pool for the operation of the underwater robots built by students in the class.

Votes for Harrington’s video may be cast on November 16 only at: facebook.com/FabSchoolLabs
