RCBC teacher named ‘Teacher of the Month’ by American Association for the Advancement of Science

Rowan College at Burlington County (RCBC) instructor Griffin Kidd, earned teacher of the month from the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Kidd, is an adjunct professor who teaches physics at RCBC. He also teaches algebra-based physics, AP Physics C: Classical Mechanics and Electricity and Magnetism, Forensic Science, and Intro to Engineering, at Haddonfield Memorial High School.

“I am glad to have Griffin as one of our adjuncts at RCBC. It’s nice to see an educator getting students interested in these programs at such an early age” said RCBC President Paul Drayton. “The link between Rowan College at Burlington County and Rowan University’s renowned engineering programs gives students the ability to earn an in-demand degree at an affordable price and high-quality educators such as Professor Kidd make that possible.”

While conducting research at Drexel University for his masters’ thesis in environmental engineering, Kidd shares his research with his students. He also assigns them projects where they are required to read science journals.

“After I started teaching, I realized many high school students do not know about the numerous career opportunities within engineering,” Kidd said. “With the encouragement of the administration at Haddonfield Memorial High School, I developed a project-based course to introduce students to engineering.”

Kidd, gets inspired by his students’ thoughtful questions and their approaches to problem-solving. He often develops class projects and new lessons based on the creative approaches by his students.

“Professor Kidd is an excellent example of the type of high-quality educators that make Rowan College at Burlington County one of the best community colleges in the nation,” said Freeholder Mary Ann O’Brien. “Burlington County has many tremendous educators and it’s great when one earns recognition for their outstanding contributions.”

Through the college’s historic Rowan University partnership, the university’s engineering program, will soon be a part of the RCBC Mt. Laurel campus. The first Rowan University engineering classes are scheduled to begin in Mount Laurel in the fall of 2017 as part of the bachelor’s of science in mechanical engineering and a certificate program in manufacturing.
