Emma Nasto, 12, of Mt. Laurel, shares the spirited role of Les with another performer, while her sister Maddie Nasto, 9, also of Mt. Laurel, has the role of one of the show’s young newsies.

“Newsies is such an empowering, inspirational story about real children standing together,” says Carolyn B. Newman, SKIT producer/director.

The show follows a ragtag team of newsboys making a meager living selling newspapers on the city streets. But when the prices of “papers” are hiked and the newsies are hung out to dry, there is nothing left to do but “open the gates and seize the day!”

The Newsies form a union and organize a strike against the greedy publisher of the New York World.

The show is inspired by the true story of the 1899 Newsboys Strike, and this production showcases students from more than 25 different NJ schools.

SKIT is a nonprofit, family community theatre group founded in 1986 to offer the children of Hunterdon County an opportunity to experience the joys of theatre and give the community professional quality children’s theatre productions.

Since that time, has since blossomed into an organization that also provides families the opportunity to share quality time while providing an unending amount of wonderful memories.
