Mt. Laurel moves forward with referendum for November on how open space money is spent
Mt. Laurel is moving ahead with a referendum for this fall that asks voters to make a change in how the township is able to spend the money collected from its open space tax. Mt. Laurel Council passed an ordinance on second reading at this week’s meeting that will put a question to voters in November asking if the township should be allowed to use open space tax funds for the improvement of open space lands the township owns. Currently the township is only able to use money collected for the purchase of news lands and nothing else.

Mt. Laurel Council used a portion of its meeting this week to listen to leaders of the township’s departments as they presented council with their 2017 capital budget requests. Requests included suggested roads for the township’s next roads program, new township vehicles, police equipment and more.

The Mt. Laurel Police Department is warning residents on family emergency scams. Police warn residents that such criminals involved in family emergency scams are professionals and have often have done research on their victims and may know some basic information about them. According to police, they target older citizens, play on emotions, demand immediate action and swear their victims to secrecy.

Laurel Library continues to host a range of programs for kids of different ages. Teens can also check out the library for many of its regularly scheduled teen events set to continue throughout the summer, and adults aren’t left out at the library this summer either.
Mt. Laurel Police look for man caught by security camera entering unlocked vehicle
On June 23 at 5:08 a.m., Mt. Laurel Police say a man entered an unlocked vehicle parked at a residence on the 5100 block of Church Road. The Mt. Laurel Police Department is asking members of the public to call the police if they have any information concerning this crime or the identity of the suspect.
