MFS preps for 225th anniversary

Moorestown Friends School opened for the 2009–10 school year with 711 students from preschool to grade 12. School enrollment includes 208 Moorestown residents — representing a savings of over $2.5 million annually to township residents. Since 1785, Moorestown Friends School has been providing township residents with a distinct educational option that combines rigorous academics with spiritual and ethical education in the Quaker tradition.

The partnership between MFS and Moorestown is important, says Head of School, Larry Van Meter, a native Moorestonian and 1968 MFS graduate: “Moorestown and Moorestown Friends have a mutually supportive relationship. The reputation of MFS enhances the image of Moorestown, and the special qualities of Moorestown contribute to positive public

perceptions of MFS.”

Relationships are cordial with the local public schools. “Moorestown is very fortunate to have two high caliber K-12 schools within its borders. We look forward to exploring mutually cooperative opportunities to serve our community,” said Moorestown Township Public Schools Superintendent Dr. John Bach.

MFS will celebrate its 225th anniversary in 2010–11. The school is currently developing plans to convert the South Annex of the Greenleaf property, at 28 E. Main St., into a classroom building to accommodate the need for additional instructional space at the school. MFS was a gold sponsor for the Autumn in Moorestown Day and is also a gold sponsor for Candlelight Night on Nov. 6.

Admissions Open Houses will be held on Sunday, Oct. 18 and Saturday, Nov. 14. For more information, call 856–235–2900 or visit www.mfriends.org.
