Age 95 of Chesapeake City, Md., passed away peacefully at home on July 10.
Born in Moorestown in 1915, William was a University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine Class of 1939 graduate. He was an Honor Roll Member of the American Veterinary Association and held a license in seven states. Prior to moving to Maryland in 1962, he was the most sought after veterinarian on the New York Racing circuit and wintered in Aiken with several of his clients. He cared for many famous horses including Five Time Horse Of The Year, “Kelso” and Nautical, “The Horse With The Flying Tail.” Locally, he was respected and renowned for racing his Thoroughbreds barefoot and his medical creation Redd Blister.
In addition to his family and friends, the Sassafras River too has lost one of its most frequent and passionate friends. On an almost daily occurrence the sleek and elegantly functional 62’ Elco, the “Pathfinder” under the guiding hands of its Captain Wright, could be seen making its way from the Georgetown Marina to the waters of the Chesapeake Bay — two enduring companions often alone on their river.
A devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather and loving husband, William is survived by his wife Lana Wright, his daughters Jeannie Tucker (Joe) of Preston, Md., and Lucy Dunne (Michael) of Reading, Vt., his sons Geoff Wright (Louise) of Preston, Md., and John Wright of Portsmouth, R.I., grandchildren Stephanie Pelletier (Marc), John Wright, Peter Wright, Wright Morris, Beale Dunne, Ridgely Dunne and great grandchildren Marlon, Marshall and Mason Pelletier. He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Bertha Wright, sisters Doris C. Anderson and Alice S. Koch and daughter Beale Morris.
According to his wishes, services will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Mid-Atlantic Horse Rescue c/o R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 318 George St., Chesapeake City, MD 21915. To send condolences visit www.rtfoard.com.
