MFS sophomore selected as member of Philadelphia Youth Orchestra

Lauren Kam will play with the orchestra this season as a violist.

Moorestown Friends School sophomore Lauren Kam of Westampton has been selected as a member of the highly competitive Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO). Kam successfully completed a rigorous audition process and will play with the orchestra this season as a violist.

Over the next several months, Kam will participate in four live performances at Verizon Hall, located within the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. These concerts include the music of master composers Wagner, Shostakovich, Schumann, Strauss, Bruch, Saint-Saens and more.

Now in its 79th year, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra carries on a rich tradition of support for young classical musicians. Performers range in age from 14 to 21 and have auditioned from nearly 20 counties in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. Many PYO participants continue their musicianship at colleges, conservatories and orchestras around the world.

In addition to her new role at PYO, Kam is also principal violist in the orchestra at Temple Music Prep’s Center for Gifted Young Musicians (CGYM).
