Fire elections tomorrow

On Saturday, Feb. 16, residents of Fire District №1 will get the chance to vote for two fire commissioners to serve a three0year term. Candidates Bradley J. Kenney and Charles Schuster are running uncontested for the open seats on the Board of Fire Commissioners.

Residents will also get the chance to vote on the fire district’s budget. General expenses on the budget call for approximately $1.8 million to be raised by taxation for general operating expenses.

According to board chairman Karl Shelley’s letter, this year’s budget will see a $747 increase in total expenditures and an increase of approximately 4.9 cents per $100 assessed valuation.

He said voters approved $100,000 for the purchase of a new off-road fire vehicle. The cost of the vehicle is now being included in this year’s budget so the department can use current capital funds for the purchase, he said in the announcement.

Moorestown Fire District №2 residents will also vote to approve the 2013 budget and elect two fire commissioners for a three-year term. Incumbent Jacqueline M. Grant, and newcomers William Ruggiano and Jonathan Tabaco are running.

Voters will also vote to repave the parking lot of the Lenola Fire Station at no more than $70,000 for the 2014 fiscal year, according to board administrator Elizabeth Booth.

Booth said, if approved, the funding to repave the parking lot will come from reserved funds.

She said voters are also asked to approve the purchase of a replacement vehicle for the Fire Official. The cost of the vehicle is not to exceed $38,000, she said and the funding will also come from reserved funds.

The amount to be raised by taxation for residents in Fire District №2 is an increase of $6,374 from 2012, Booth said.

“Which is .9 percent increase from 2012,” she said

Since the township has recently went through a town-wide reassessment, the 2013 fire taxes cannot be calculated since the information will change, Booth said.

Polling locations will be open from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Emergency Service Building located at 261 West Main Street. For voters in Fire District 2, the polling location will be at Lenola Fire Station located at 229 North Lenola Road.

Tomorrow night, The Sun will post the unofficial results of the election.
