Moorestown Summer Programs

There will be plenty to keep Moorestown students busy this summer. The Board of Education and Department of Parks and Recreation have released a number of summer programs for children to participate in.

The Summer Parks Program offered by the Parks Department has been around for nearly 50 years now. The program spans five weeks, starting June 23, and is open to children between the ages of five and 15.

“The Summer Parks Program gives children the opportunity to spend an enjoyable morning with kids their own age in a safe and secure environment,” Kahra Buss, of the Department of Parks and Recreation said.

The program is loosely structured, with no daily schedule, allowing the kids to choose what they want to do. There are a multitude of activities available to the kids, including organized sports, board games, arts and crafts and even academic lessons.

The success of the Summer Parks Program has led the Parks Department to develop a brand new program for this summer: Four is Fun.

“The Four is Fun program is based on the Summer Parks Program,” Buss said. “There has been a tremendous amount of requests by parents to sign up their four year olds, so we have developed a program that specifically targets a pre-school environment.”

The Four in Fun program will be led by state certified instructor Chelsea Gross. The program will follow the same model as the Summer Parks Program, spanning five weeks. In trying to follow the pre-school model, however, the Four is Fun Program will run in two sessions: a morning session between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. and an afternoon session between 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Parents have the option of signing up their child for one or both sessions.

“We wanted the Four is Fun program to be developmentally appropriate,” added Buss. “There will be a mixture of physical activities and learning games that should make it an enjoyable experience for any four year old.”

The list of Moorestown Township Public Schools summer enrichment programs is quite extensive and diverse as well. The programs will be held in four different sessions. Session I will take place between July 7 and July 10; session II will take place between July 14 and July 17; session III will take place between July 21 and July 24; and session IV will take place between July 28 and July 31.

The programs available to the students cover a wide range of activities. There are classes for writing, math, science and history or there are more active programs available covering sports dance, cooking and music.

The Board of Education and the Department of Parks and Recreation have done a wonderful job of providing opportunities for Moorestown kids to get out and enjoy the summer.
