The Department of Parks and Rec Column

As the autumn weather arrives we find relief in the cooler days, the changing of the leaves and the imminent arrival of the holidays. Yes, while it is mid-October now, we will blink our eyes and it will suddenly be mid-November and the holiday season is upon us. What better time than now to start planning holiday activities? The Department of Parks and Recreation is working with the Evergreen Women’s Club to make holiday memories on the next “Senior Trip.”

This fall, the department is coordinating a day trip to Caesars in Atlantic City, to see “Elf.” This favorite Broadway adaptation of the movie starring Will Farrell, is the story of an orphaned baby who becomes Santa’s champion. When Santa is out delivering his presents to the world’s children, little does he know that he has picked up an unexpected visitor; an orphaned baby boy has crawled into his present sack, and he is unknowingly whisked off to the North Pole. Years later, the boy, Buddy, now a fully grown man is confronted with a startling truth; he is not in fact an elf, but a human. With Santa’s permission, he heads off to the bright lights of New York City to discover his real birth family. Buddy’s personal journey becomes a mission to save the Christmas spirit. Buddy’s genuine love for Christmas, and desire to improve the attitudes of the surly New Yorkers he encounters, including his birth father, and the hilarity that ensues can lift even the “grinchiest” spirit.

The Department of Parks and Recreation is proud to partner with the Evergreen’s Women’s Club to offer this event as one of the many “Senior Trips” that occur during the course of the year. This trip is scheduled for Nov. 13 and the cost is $45 per person. The package price includes a ticket to the show, $25 in slot money, and bus transportation. A bus will leave from the First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown at 101 Bridgeboro Road at 10 a.m. and will return at 7 p.m. Checks can be made payable to the Evergreens Women’s Club c/o 44 Red Leaf Road, Moorestown, N.J. 08057. Please include with your payment your name, contact information and an emergency contact. Please contact Mary Anne Barlow at (609) 870–7073 with any questions.

The Department of Parks and Recreation is proud to partnership with many local organizations to meet the needs of the entire Moorestown Community.
