The event was hosted by the MHS Interact Club.
On Saturday, Feb. 25, the Moorestown High School Interact Club hosted the 15th Annual Soup for the Soul Charity event. The event was held at the First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown, New Jersey. All proceeds from the event went to the charity Philabundance, which is a charity dedicated to ending hunger in the Delaware Valley.
The beautiful and, oddly, warm weather contributed to a well-attended event that was a huge success. Those in attendance enjoyed the many varieties of soup and bread available. The event featured soup and bread donated by Bacio, Barrone’s Tuscan Grill, Bertucci’s, Blue Fig Cafe, The Evergreens, Georgetti’s, Iron Hill Brewery, LaScala’s Pronto, Maurizio’s, The Moorestown Deli, Passariello’s and Ralph’s Market, as well as private individuals. Starbucks, Corner Bakery and several private individuals also donated dessert and coffee.
The event also featured music from local high school senior Edward Duarte, as well as from the family of Laura Dishong, a local music teacher.
Another hugely successful part of the event was the raffle. Area businesses donated a variety of items that were included in the raffle. Idea Lab Marketing, Corner Bakery Café and ACR Construction Company provided corporate sponsorships.
It was wonderful to see the community come together to support such a great cause as Philabundance. The First Presbyterian Church was hugely supportive as well, and it was great to see so many local restaurants and businesses combine their efforts to help such a worthy cause. Soup for the Soul not only provides funds for such a worthy cause however, but also acts as a binding force for the local community, bringing together businesses, residents and companies.
In the end, approximately 200 people attended the event, and the event generated almost $2,000, after expenses, to be donated to Philabundance. This money will be put to great use fighting hunger in our local community.
