Marie Alice Smith (née Lau), 88, of Moorestown, died on Sunday, September 2 at 9:56 p.m. in her home surrounded by her children after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Jersey Cit on October 31, 1929, Marie graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel College in White Plains, N.Y. She began her teaching career in Jersey City and later taught at William B. Allen Middle School in Moorestown. She was predeceased by her husband James B. Smith in 2004.
Marie is survived by her children, Frederic (Maria) Smith of Long Valley; Judith (Eric) Hale of Lewes, Del.;Louise (Louis) Febrizio of West Sayville, NY; Theresa (Michael) Hardy of Audubon; Helen Smith of Moorestown and Thomas (Angela) Smith of Wilmington, Del.;her brother Francis Lau. and by her 18 grandchildren: Meghan (Michael), Laura (Jonathan), Mark, John, Luke, Shea, Cara, Amanda, Daniel, Brett, Lynn, Faith, Kyle, Jasmine, Elijah, Owen, Maeve, and Rhian.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday evening and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday am at Lewis Funeral Home in Moorestown.
A mass of Christian burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Moorestown. A burial at General William C. Doyle Veteran’s Cemetery in Arneytown will be private.
