On Friday, July 7, children and parents were treated to a presentation on bees led by head reference librarian Maria Esche and her husband Bob Esche at the Moorestown Library.
The Esches showed off their observation hive, described the work and life cycle of bees and piled a table high with produce and other plant-based products, such as cotton, that rely on pollination by bees to grow.
They also explained the problem of colony collapse and shared tips for helping the bee population to thrive.
They were joined by the library’s head of technical services Denise DiBlasio, who also keeps bees at her Moorestown home. At the end of the program, children had fun trying on Maria Esche’s special beekeeping gear.
