The event on March 9 will allow the community to see the newly-built multi-purpose building
On Friday, March 9, Families of both the community and congregation are invited to see Medford United Methodist’s new Family Life Center at Medford Family Fun Night and Open House. From 6 to 7:30 p.m., kids can enjoy an inflatable bounce house, carnival food, music and, more.
The event will give the community both a chance to see the newly built multi-purpose building in a fun and casual atmosphere, and see how the surrounding communities may benefit from the space.
“We are anxious to find opportunities to partner for new possibilities in the Medford area,” said Pastor Joe Monahan. “We have interest from several different community organizations including some art groups and local camps. We are only limited by our creative imagination.”
The building project is the culmination of a process that began in 2004 and several capital campaigns. The original Medford UMC was located on Bank Street from the 1820s, until moving to the present location at 2 Hartford Road in the 1970s. Since its opening on Dec. 17, the Family Life Center has been used for the 9:30 a.m. Sunday Contemporary Service and church youth group activities.
Recently, the space was host to the Values in Action Conference, live-streamed from NYC. The building seats approximately 400 for worship and about 320 for dinner. As for recreation, it‘s set up for high school regulation volleyball and half-court basketball.
“We have start-of-the-art tech, a great sound system, cameras and recording equipment for live streaming worship and theatrical lighting,” said Monahan. “It encompasses the large room, stage, kitchen, welcome area, storage, two classrooms and a nursery.
