Lenape Regional High School District performs at high level

Lenape Regional High School District Meets New Jersey Department of Education QSAC Standards of Performance

The Lenape Regional High School District Board of Education, at its regular monthly meeting on July 18, announced that the district has met the requirements of the New Jersey Department of Education’s (NJDOE) Quality Single Accountability Continuum (QSAC) and has been designated a “high performing” district.

The QSAC measures five performance areas: instruction and program, fiscal management, governance, operations, and personnel. To meet the requirements for a “high performing” designation, the school district must score at least 80 percent or higher in each of these categories. The Lenape Regional High School District (LRHSD) scored 100 percent in four of the five areas and 95 percent in instruction and program.

“A designation of ‘high performing’ in the QSAC is a testament to the dedication and commitment of the Lenape Regional District’s efforts to be a leader in progressive education,” said Superintendent of Schools Carol L. Birnbohm, Ed.D. “We are proud of this achievement and grateful to our students, faculty, staff and community for ensuring that we can provide our students with a secure, challenging and energizing environment,” she said.

The goal of the New Jersey QSAC is to ensure that all school districts are operating at a high level of performance. Based on the LRHSD’s compliance with the indicators, Christopher D. Cerf, the acting commissioner for the NJDOE said that LHRSD, “be certified as providing a thorough and efficient system of education.”

Chris Heilig, LRHSD Director of Programs and Planning, explains that QSAC is a “long process requiring enormous amounts of documentation.”

“The fact that we went through this rigorous accountability and were designated as high performing demonstrates that we are fulfilling our mission, and specifically within those areas — instruction and program all the way through to personnel,” said Heilig.

Fiscal management, one of the key accountabilities of QSAC, includes nearly 30 specific standards ranging from ensuring accurate balance sheets to conducting annual health and safety reviews. LRHSD Business Administrator, James H. Hager noted the QSAC monitoring confirmed the district’s fiscal health and accountability to the community.

Hager also complimented the district staff for providing excellent programs and preparing for the QSAC review.

“It’s a lot of hard work to get ready for the monitoring in every area,” said Hager. “Being recognized as a high performing district is quite an accomplishment.”

Public school districts are required to go through the QSAC review every three years.
