The discussion continued for food trucks on Main Street.
At last week’s Medford Council meeting, there was further discussion on the draft ordinance for food trucks to be placed on Main Street once a month to create more foot traffic and to encourage people to visit the shops and restaurants along the street.
The draft ordinance stated the time food trucks would be stationed on Main Street would be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., although the day of the week these food trucks would be in place has not been discussed any further. There will be a maximum of six food trucks allowed on Main Street at a time, and there are plans to create variety through having each vendor sell different types of food.
There will also be a maximum decibel rate for generators to ensure the generator does not produce too much noise.
Deputy Mayor Brad Denn suggested a maximum decibel rate, saying “the difference between 75 [decibels] and 60 [decibels] is substantial.”
All requirements, including daily rates, will be stated in the application for vendors to be aware of before applying.
There were also proclamations for Tourette Syndrome Awareness Day and the Medford Milers Running Club.
The proclamation for Tourette Syndrome stated TS is an inherited neurological disorder that is characterized by involuntary physical and vocal tics that may occur many times a day, and is often accompanied by attention deficit disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, learning disabilities and depression. TS affects one in 100 children and there is no standard treatment and no known cure.
June 4 has been recognized as Tourette Syndrome Awareness Day in Medford Township as a day to break the stigma surrounding TS.
The proclamation for the Medford Milers Running Club stated that it raised $6,000 for the Halloween parade, and a 12-person relay team completed a 200-mile race from Gettysburg, Pa., to Washington, DC., where it won first out of 86 teams, completing the race in just over 23 and a half hours. The Medford Milers Running Club has been recognized for its civic contribution and service to others in the community.
In other news:
- A bid is out for assistance with brush pick up. There is an improvement in how much brush is being picked up per day since there has been approval to drop off brush at a closer location.
- An ordinance has been passed for vacating and extinguishing the public rights in an alley adjacent to Cherry Street.
The next regular council meeting will be held on June 6 at 7 p.m. at the Public Safety Building located at 91 Union St.
