LETTER: Reader upset about the increase in school taxes
In response to the article which appeared in the April 17–23 Medford Sun regarding “School taxes are high…. Should we really be that upset?”
The answer is yes, we should be upset, and I am tired of the rhetoric that is being thrown around about how great our school system is.
In fact, the very day I read this article, there was an article that appeared on USA News regarding the ranking of New Jersey schools. We aren’t even in the top 10!
In fact, we aren’t even listed with any ranking as a result of the legitimate process of how the schools are ranked.
To be eligible for state ranking, a school must be awarded a national gold or silver medal.
Hence, because our schools have not been awarded any medals, I don’t see how someone can claim this notoriety to fame when it’s all smoke and mirrors.
But again, I guess if you can insult the intelligence of your readers, who are fed up with hearing how we have a reason to raise our taxes yet again.
Feel free to pay my portion because we are not getting what we are paying for.
If you are to Google top high schools in New Jersey, the most recent data is from 2012 and it reveals Seneca was number 119, Shawnee was №142 and Lenape was №143.
The methodology that explained these rankings was obtained from the state Department of Education’s most recent N.J. School report card.
So before you put your hands in my pockets again, please state the facts — your article was pure fiction.
