The South Jersey Pops will perform music from the movies on Sunday, March 8, at Shawnee High School in Medford. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. with the performance starting at 3 p.m.
Conductor and music director Robert Schiavinato has programmed a range of musical offerings from the big screen. Schiavinato has paired classics such as “Moon River” and “Over the Rainbow” with contemporary themes from the Harry Potter films and “The Hobbit.”
With Bach’s Double Violin Concerto, heard in Woody Allen’s “Hannah and Her Sisters,” the Pops will pay tribute to the role classical music has played in film.
“We are thrilled to showcase our outstanding Concertmaster Cheryl Reifsteck and her talented student, Emmanuel Houndo, in this beautiful piece” Schiavinato said.
This performance will be the first since the Pops’ holiday concert broke attendance records last December. Tickets to “The Pops Goes To The Movies” will be available at the door or may be purchased on line at www.southjerseypops.org. The cost is $8 for adults. Children of middle-school age and younger are admitted free.
In the event of snow, the concert may be postponed to 7 p.m., Monday, March 9, at Marlton United Methodist Church, 2. Check www.southjerseypops.org in the event of inclement weather for updates.
