Youngsters Learn Engineering Principles at BCLS

The Burlington County Library System is excited to present a series of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) workshops featuring fun, hands-on activities for ages 6 to 12 at all library branches this summer.

Focusing on basic engineering principles, the workshops will be taught by members of Think Like a Girl, a startup company of young entrepreneurs seeking to empower girls “to develop into our world’s problem solvers.” Formed by a group of Rowan University mechanical engineering students and recent graduates, Think Like a Girl offers a subscription service of engineering kits marketed toward young girls to encourage them to learn about engineering in ways they enjoy. The company also reaches out to the community to teach girls about engineering and future STEM careers.

The workshops will be presented in two Think Like a Girl “Aspiring Engineer” programs: “Gemma Gadget” for ages 6 to 9; and “Gaby Gadget” for ages 10 to 12. Both programs will feature fun hands-on activities that teach basic engineering principles and STEAM skills.

The free workshops will begin June 21 and run through Aug. 18. Space is limited and registration is required.
