Weekly Roundup: Evesham Council reorganizes, snow hits the town

A new program is also set to begin for adults with intellectual disabilities.

Evesham Township Council holds reorganization meeting for 2018

Evesham Township Council met briefly this week to hold its reorganization meeting for 2018. As there were no members of council up for re-election in November, there were no re-elected or new members to swear into new terms at the meeting. However, council continued its annual tradition of rotating the council member who holds the position of deputy mayor for the year, with council selecting Debbie Hackman for the role for 2018.

New program in Evesham Township to host social events for adults with intellectual disabilities

Starting Jan. 9, Evesham Township is partnering with the newly formed Special Needs Adult Program (SNAP) to launch a series of events where adults with intellectual disabilities can meet at the Gibson House Community Center for a monthly night of games, snacks and socializing. Events already planned include a game night scheduled for Jan. 9, the Valentines Day Dance on Feb. 13, an Arts and Crafts Night on March 13, Karaoke and Yoga event on April 10 and a Carnival Night on May 10.

Evesham Police identify pair in alleged scam at Burlington Coat Factory in December

The following information is on file with the Evesham Township Police Department:

Evesham Police officials say the department has identified a pair in what police describe as an alleged “flimflam” scam perpetrated at the Burlington Coat Factory in December. Police say an ETPD officer, utilizing a worldwide crime database, was able to connect with a crime analyst from the Northumbria Police in England who positively identified the pair, each a citizen of Romania.

Evesham Police charge alleged lewdness suspect with endangering the welfare of a child

The following information is on file with the Evesham Township Police Department:

On Jan. 3, the Evesham Township Police Department charged a 44-year-old male of Browns Mills suspected in several alleged lewdness incidents with endangering the welfare of a child and lewdness. According to police, the investigation dates back to July 25 at 1:30 p.m., when officers responded to the Walmart parking lot, 150 E. Route 70, for the report of a male allegedly masturbating inside his vehicle. On Oct. 7 at 2 p.m., police say ETPD officers responded to the ShopRite parking lot, 307 W. Route 70 for another alleged incident of a male exposing himself to a mother and her juvenile daughter.

Evesham hit with first major snowstorm of 2018, bringing several inches of snow to town

Evesham Township was hit with it’s first major snowstorm of 2018 this week. Along with several inches of snow and strong wind conditions, the storm caused schools in the Evesham Township School District, and the Lenape Regional High School District, including Cherokee High School, to close on both Jan. 4 and Jan. 5.
