Shopping bags filled with food lined the walls of Gibson House on Jan. 22 at the monthly meeting of the Marlton Woman’s Club.
Members came bringing cans of tuna, soup, packaged dinners, cake mixes, peanut butter and jelly, macaroni and cheese, toothpaste and toiletries.
They came with open hearts.
Bright yellow shopping bags lined the walls of Gibson House on Monday, Jan. 22 at the monthly meeting of the Marlton Woman’s Club, when members brought donations to stock the shelves of the Cherokee High School Food Pantry.
The food pantry is housed at Cherokee and is managed by school guidance counselor Suzanne Connolly.
Along with Wiley Food Pantry, the Cherokee Food Pantry was also one of two designated beneficiaries of the women’s club’s October bingo fundraiser last fall when patrons brought non-perishable food donations.
Club member Michele Drzymala had also reached out to her neighbors via Nextdoor.com, an online community website, and happily received donations at her home as well from those wishing to help families facing needs this winter.
Self-described as a “a group of women who raise money and give it away,” the GFWC Marlton Woman’s Club is a federated non-profit volunteer service organization. The club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month from September through May at the Gibson House Community Center in Marlton.
