Burlington County Sheriff’s Department announces additional free child safety seat checks

In addition to weekly checks at the County Administration Building, checks will occur in Mt. Laurel, Moorestown, Delran and Medford Lakes.

Burlington County Sheriff Jean Stanfield has announced that her department will once again be taking its child safety seat checks on the road by offering checkpoints in multiple municipalities throughout the summer and fall.

The department will continue checkpoints at the County Administration Building each Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and in addition, night hours at the County Administration Building will be resuming from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“Our goal is to provide busy parents this free service with additional locations and more flexible hours,” Stanfield said.

Remaining events in the traveling schedule is as follows:

  • Saturday, June 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mt. Laurel Fire Department Station No. 361, 105 Masonville Road, Mt. Laurel
  • Saturday, July 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Moorestown Town Hall (in the parking lot), 111 W. Second St., Moorestown
  • Saturday, Aug. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Delran EMS Building, 900 S. Chester Ave., Delran
  • Saturday, Sept. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mt. Laurel Fire Department Station No. 362, at 3824 Church Road.
  • Saturday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Medford Lakes Fire Department, 10 Stokes Road, Medford

“Our Child Passenger Safety Seat Program conducts hands-on training for parents and caregivers to ensure that their children’s safety seats are properly installed,” Stanfield said. “The Sheriff’s Department Child Safety Seat Team consists of State Certified Technicians who provide a one-on-one learning experience and also check child seats for safety concerns and recalls.”

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, research on the effectiveness of child safety seats shows their use can reduce fatalities for children under age 1 by 71 percent and for toddlers ages 1 to 4 by 54 percent. If used properly, a child safety restraint can reduce the need for hospitalization among children 4 years of age and under by 69 percent.
