Residents and businesses can voluntarily register privately owned surveillance camera systems to help the department investigate crimes.
The Evesham Township Police Department is once again promoting the ability for residents and businesses within the township to register their private video surveillance systems with the department.
According to the department, as crimes occur nearby businesses and residents in the township, those business and residents may not always be aware that their private video surveillance systems may have captured information that could help solve a crime.
In turn, police officials say the department is also not always aware who may have this “potentially vital” information.
As such, the Evesham Police Department is asking residents and businesses across the township to consider registering their privately owned surveillance camera systems with the department.
According to the department, as police respond to criminal incidents in the community, police may be able to use the information or footage gathered from the security cameras to assist in the apprehension and prosecution of the criminals involved.
For those register a camera system, those businesses or residents would only be contacted by police if there is a criminal incident in the vicinity of that security camera.
Police personnel, if necessary, might then request to view the camera footage in order to assist in the investigation.
For those interested in participating in this community-police partnership, businesses and residents can register their system at https://lf.evesham-nj.gov/Forms/surveillancesystem.
Police say information provided to the department regarding camera systems will be for official use only, and personal information will be confidential and not be for public dissemination.
