Voters defeated the Evesham Township School District’s $69 million spending plan by a 3,792 to 3,293 vote during last week’s school election.
According to unofficial results released by the county, 7,085 voters made it out to the polls to decide the fate of the 2010–11 school budget. Unofficial results do no include provisional or absentee ballots.
The district had proposed a $52.6 million tax levy that would have increased the tax rate 4 cents per $100 of assessed home value. School taxes for residents in the average assessed home of $277,100 would have increased by $111.03 if the budget had passed as proposed.
“It is disappointing that our budget did not pass for the 2010–2011 school year. The next step will be to work closely with the township council to re-examine our budget for next year,” John Scavelli, Jr., Superintendent of Evesham Schools, said. “As always, it continues to be our goal to provide our children with an excellent education in Evesham.”
