Boat owners in Marlton and surrounding townships are invited to bring their trailered boats to the Evesham Township Municipal Building parking lot off Tuckerton Road in Marlton, for a free Coast Guard Auxiliary Vessel Safety Check on Saturday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Personal watercraft, sailboats, kayaks and canoes are included. All vessels successfully completing the safety check will receive a vessel safety decal.
The vessel checks will be conducted by trained members of United States Coast Guard Auxiliary flotilla 1310, which meets on the second Thursday of each month at Gibson House in Marlton. The safety check takes about 15 minutes to complete and includes inspection of life jackets, fire extinguishers, flares and other onboard safety equipment. Boat owners are reminded to bring their boat registration.
“We know there are many boaters here in Southern New Jersey who are concerned about the well-being of their families while on the water. We look forward to meeting them at this important event,” said Lin Goldkrantz, Marlton Flotilla Commander.
Auxiliary flotilla members will also distribute boating safety literature, coloring books and “Wear it” personal flotation device stickers for children. Information will also be available on boating safety classes, which are a prerequisite for receiving a State of New Jersey boating safety certificate.
