Letter to theĀ editor
Marlton residents,
Hello, my name is Stephen P Leoniy, commander of the Evesham Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States of America (V.F.W.) Post 6295; it is my privilege to personally invite the residents of Marlton and surrounding communities with children in the 9th through 12th grades to compete in the VFWās Voice of Democracy scholarship competition!
First prize is a $30,000 scholarship paid directly to the American college, university or vocational or technical school of the studentās choice!
Each year, more than 50,000 high school students compete for more than $2.3 million in scholarships and incentives. Prizes and scholarships are awarded at the town, county, state and nationalĀ level.
State winners receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., March 2ā6, 2013, to tour the city, meet our nationās leaders, be honored by the VFW and its Ladies Auxiliary and receive their portion of the national awards. Students compete by writing and recording a broadcast script on an annual patriotic theme. This yearās theme is, āIs Our Constitution Still Relevant?ā
Record your original three to five minute essay on a standard cassette tape or CD. In your own voice, no music, singing, poetry or sound effects are allowed. The recording and typed essay should be labeled with your name, to show ownership. If interested please contact Commander Steve Leoniy for details, instruction and entry form at 856ā983ā6767 or at [email protected].
If there is enough interest we can schedule an informal group session and discuss the competition and go over some points of interest. Entries must be turned into Commander Steve Leoniy Marlton V.F.W. Post 6295. Deadline for entries is Nov. 1. I know together we can get one of our Kids to Washington D.C. and a chance at the First prize $30,000 scholarship.
The V.F.W. Does more for our nations combat veterans and their families than any other organization! If you are combat veteran or you know of a veteran in need please contactĀ me.
We are Todayās VFW protecting the rights of combat veterans their families and improving our community.
Respectfully,
Stephen P. Leoniy, Commander
Marlton V.F.W. PostĀ 6295
