Burlington County Sheriff ‘s Office offering women’s self defense classes

Sheriff Jean Stanfield looking to provide a way for women to get proactive about their own safety.

Burlington County Sheriff Jean Stanfield has announced that her department will once again be hosting a Women’s Self-Defense Workshop.

The program will be held Tuesday, Sept. 25 and Monday, Oct. 1, at the Burlington County Human Services Building, 795 Woodlane Road, in Westampton, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

“We are proud to provide our residents with another opportunity to become proactive about their own safety,” Stanfield said. “We saw a tremendous turnout last year. Participants were excited to learn the essential skills needed to become more aware of their surroundings, their actions and the actions of others.”

According to Stanfield, this free program is being offered to Burlington County women who are age 18 and older, along with teenagers between the ages of 14 to 17 that are accompanied by an adult female guardian.

Standfield said participants should wear comfortable clothing and flat soled shoes.

“Our goal is to bring the critically important skills of self-defense to women in a safe, comfortable and welcoming setting.” Stanfield said. “I encourage everyone to take advantage of this incredible program.”
