Students at Van Zant Elementary recently celebrate Computer Science Week

To celebrate Computer Science Week, several classes at Van Zant Elementary participated in the Global Hour of Code.

To celebrate the recent Computer Science Week, several classes at Van Zant Elementary participated in the Global Hour of Code.

One group of participants was the second-graders from Scott Katz’s classroom using Tynker, an interactive, visual programming game.

Students created a custom character and learned how to program the character to navigate obstacles, collect candy, and get back to the computer.

In computer class, Dawn Cappello integrated the use of Code A Pillar.

In collaborative groups, students plotted obstacle courses using their math skills, measuring distance and then “coded” the Code A Pillar to successfully navigate the obstacle course.
