Evesham Police warn against trend of juveniles riding bikes in the middle of roadways

Police ask residents who see youth participating in this activity to make their parents aware of the dangerous and illegal behavior.

The following information comes from the Evesham Township Police Department:

It has been brought to the attention of the Evesham Police Department that there have been numerous instances involving juveniles riding their bikes in the middle of the roadway/swerving causing a danger to themselves and the motoring public.

Police say they have seen an increase in these types of activities since it was televised as happening in the Philadelphia region.

Police are asking that if anyone knows any of the youth participating in this activity they should make their parents aware of this dangerous and illegal behavior.

According to the department, officers will be taking a zero tolerance enforcement stance as it pertains to this type of activity.

Police say anyone operating a bicycle is required to follow the same traffic laws as a motor vehicle. Those observed not following the law will be prosecuted under NJ Traffic Code Title 39.

Contact Evesham Police at (856) 983–1111 if encountering a situation where the youth are creating a hazardous condition in this manner.
