New sidewalks coming to town

The Engineering Department is installing new concrete sidewalks along Evesham Road, from Sussex Avenue to Cuffy’s Lane.

Contractors started preliminary site work the week of May 16 and construction began this week.

At this time, officials do not anticipate disruption to traffic flow during this project; however, drivers should be alert and cautious when traveling in the area.

Funded through the New Jersey Department of Transportation, this is the latest in a multi-phase sidewalk installation project to improve the safety and walkability of this busy road. Previously, new sidewalks have been installed from the Hi-Speedline to Perot Avenue, and from the Short Hills neighborhood to the ShopRite shopping center at Springdale Road.

“One of my goals as Mayor has been to make our community safer and more pedestrian friendly, and I’m grateful that we’ve been able to secure this discretionary aid so that we can complete these upgrades without relying on local taxpayer funds,” Mayor Bernie Platt said.

For more on these improvements, contact the Engineering Dept. at 424–3203.
