Cahn sworn in as Mayor of Cherry Hill
Chuck Cahn was sworn in as Cherry Hill’s mayor yesterday before hundreds of family, friends and community members. Longtime family friend and retired Superior Court Judge Alan Rockoff administered the Oath of Office to Cahn.
Council members N. John Amato and Sara Lipsett were sworn in by former mayor Susan Bass Levin.
Freeholder Jeffrey Nash swore in Melinda Kane for her first term in office.
David Fleisher and Lipsett were again elected by council to serve as president and vice president, respectively for 2012.
During his address, Cahn pledged his commitment to the budget and working toward making Cherry Hill a better place to live and work.
“We will evaluate every program and every line item in the budget, just like you do at home and in your business, so that we cut costs and deliver the best services to everyone — from our young, hard working families to our senior citizens,” Cahn said. “We will pay attention to the details and focus our energies on changing the status quo.”
Cahn also spoke of his goals to bring residents together–a small business council, a citizen’s cabinet of community leaders and further using social media to connect with the community.
“Our future depends on teamwork because government is not someone else’s problem. We need to talk to each other, to be tough but fair, and change things that don’t work. We need to work together, to be effective, efficient and compassionate at the same time,” Cahn said.
Invoking the spirit of the New Year, Cahn promised to listen to residents and work together with the community.
“Let us take this opportunity to start anew. To seize the day. To keep dreaming and doing. So that together, we build a brighter future for the people of Cherry Hill. I look forward to the journey with you by my side,” Cahn said.
