Mayor announces new business council

Mayor’s Message: Chuck Cahn

The first 90 days of my administration have been extremely busy and fruitful. We have launched many initiatives and begun to streamline our operations to ensure our government operates more effectively and efficiently. We have seen an overwhelming response to our citizens’ cabinet and are in the process of finalizing the members. As I travel around town, I speak regularly with business leaders who express their desire to have even greater participation and interaction with the township, to make sure their voices are heard and their suggestions are incorporated as we move our town forward.

Whether businesses are looking to relocate, start anew or expand their operations, there are numerous reasons why they couldn’t pick a better place than Cherry Hill. To promote this increased dialogue and enhance the partnership with our businesses, my administration is creating the Cherry Hill Business Council.

The Cherry Hill Business Council will be a volunteer committee comprised of business leaders throughout the town. It will be made up of CEOs, owners and leaders from businesses of all sizes and will serve as an incubator, providing a forum for business leaders to share their opinions, concerns and suggestions about how the township can provide them better support and assistance.

The council will work collaboratively with the mayor, department heads and members of the administration to develop solutions and initiatives for the township.

As a businessman myself, I have spoken regularly about the need to deliver a smarter, more efficient and streamlined government for our residents and businesses.

My administration has already begun making changes to improve the way we do business, but we recognize that as we enhance, improve and streamline our government operations, we must also do a better job marketing the township to current and prospective businesses, reminding them that Cherry Hill offers a magnificent combination of residents and resources, creating a thriving business climate while at the same time providing a first-class residential community.

We also intend to put an added focus on business retention and the business council will serve as an integral piece to the puzzle, working with existing town businesses to identify problem areas and assist with any expansion plans.

Like our citizen’s cabinet, the business council will hold meetings every other month and be joined by members of my administration as we participate in this open exchange of ideas to benefit our community. These meetings will help increase both transparency and communication, allowing for an extended dialogue regarding many of the issues and opportunities facing our businesses.

If you are interested in being a member of the business council, please submit your resume or brief bio, along with a letter identifying what role you believe you can play, to [email protected]. Space on the council is limited — and the deadline for submitting your information to be considered for it is April 30.

Once we have received the applications, we will review the submissions and notify everyone by May 20th.

I look forward to working closely with our business leaders from around the township on this exciting new endeavor.
